The BIOFOCUS Foundation can be seen as a central nervous system designed to coordinate biotechnology-based entrepreneurial initiatives. These initiatives will favour and encourage sustainable socioeconomic development in the developing regions of the world. The Foundation will pave the way for a bioresource corporation, Ekvitec AB that will strengthen the Foundation.

The BIOFOCUS Foundation is a nonprofit organization that depends primarily on charitable donations. The bioresource corporation, however, will create wealth in the poor regions of the world by generating profit from joint ventures, partnerships, and direct investments.

• Both organizations are guided by the same ethical principles:
• The main beneficiaries of all activities shall be local regions in need of development.
• The principles of fairness and distributive justice must always apply.
• No ventures shall be undertaken that require the destruction or depletion of irreplaceable resources or that are environmentally unsound.

The private sector will act as a development engine and help to realize the potential role of biotechnology and genetic engineering. With their roots among young, newly trained scientists and evident in many dynamic companies, these fields are an ideal first target.

These fields of endevour also offer great opportunities to supplement the efforts of existing bureaucracies and provide effective, pragmatic, non-ideological support to large, disadvantaged populations.

The activities of the Foundation will be represented through seminars, projects and policy papers.
