GUNNAR AKNER

Gunnar Akner, MD, PhD, is associate professor in Geriatric Medicine at Karolinska Institutet and medical specialist in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Clinical Nutrition. He is president of the Swedish Society for Clinical Nutrition and is past president of the Swedish Society for Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology. He was chairman and editor of the report "Geriatric Care and Treatment", published by the Swedish Council on Technology Assessment in Health Care 2003, available in full text at www.sbu.se. His main interest areas are clinical analysis and management of multimorbid, frail elderly as well as teaching Geriatric Medicine, focusing on nutrition, physical activity and medical drug treatment. He has deveoped a computerized prototype for a new type of problem-based " interactive health analysis system ", aimed to empower elderly patients and make them participate more their management.
